A very special dedication

Up in Love
June 2002 * Avon Books

This book is dedicated to
Leonard Keith Wagner,
the best brother any sister ever had!
With special appreciation to Lori Schega,
D.V.M. and Scott Abadie, D.V.M. and all the wonderful staff
of Abadie Veterinary Hospital in Harahan, Louisiana.
And, of course, loving thanks go to Snickers,
Fresno, Pumpkin, Puff, and Missy
what's that? Why do
the cats get named first? Well, "c" comes before
"d"
Don't worry, Sugar, Max, Dodger Dog, Spike,
Abbie, and Lexie, you all hold a most special place in my
heart.
The world would be
a much lonelier universe
without animals to watch over us.

Max
(right) was a dobie mix who'd been tied by a chain to a concrete
area with no shade,
water or food and left there. Deborah Harmse (who wrote for
Loveswept in the 90's) found Max and rescued him. He lived
with
her for almost twelve years before he went to Puppy Heaven.
Max taught me not to fear ferocious looking dogs ... who are
really sweat peas at heart. Spike (left) was a blind dog Deborah
rescued.
I
found Snickers (left) screaming her head off on the street
a year after I moved to New Orleans and she's been my constant
muse and boss for nine years.
Fresno
(right) was abandoned in a park in Fresno California. My brother's
roommate found him at a family reunion and drove him back
to Pasadena. He was four weeks old when I adopted him.
Lexie
is the mother of Dodger Dog and Abbie (pictured at left),
all lovingly raised by Meryl
Sawyer, who is a true friend of animals.
Sugar
(right) was adopted by my boyfriend from a loving home but
other people passed her by because only one parent had AKC
papers.
Puff
showed up at our door when I was in fourth grade. Some
idiot held her down and shot her front leg while she was pregnant.
We had her paw put in a cast and she lived another thirteen
years with our family. Missy and Pumpkin (left) were other
family cats.
Everywhere
there are animals who need loving homes. Tangled
Up In Love was born both from my desire to share
the story of Stacey and Michael and my desire to show adults
and children taking action to care for animals who do indeed
make our universe a much happier and healthier place.
