NOT
THE MARRYING KIND
November
2007
* Avon Books
|
Sixteen
years ago, world-famous artist Harriet P. Smith was
the nerdiest girl at Doolittle High School, and Jake
Porter was the new boy in town. Charismatic, handsome,
and instantly popular, Jake was way out of her league.
Harriet was shocked when he asked her to the graduation
dance . . . and devastated when he left town for
good the next morning.
Only
his father's remarriage could bring Jake, now a
hot shot L.A. music exec, back to small-town Arkansas.
His only consolation is the stunning woman with
the mysterious green eyes he meets at a local bar.
He's got no idea he was a part of one of the best
nights of her life—or that he's about to
fall for her as hard as she once did for him. Jake's
never been the marrying kind, but another night
with Harriet might make him change his mind. |

Reviews
for Not the Marrying Kind
"4-1/2
plugs!"
"NOT
THE MARRYING KIND...one
of the most delightful, witty, well-written books
I’ve read in a very long
time. This author absolutely nailed the experience
of cosmopolitan, urban professionals returning to
the small town of their roots. The romance is pitched
perfectly, the dialogue is sparkling, and the story
builds to a very satisfying conclusion.
"Throughout
the book readers are introduced to a variety of
colorful characters. The best parts of
this novel are the meticulous attention to detail,
feelings, and plot. I’ve never read a Hailey
North book before but you can bet this will not be
my last novel by this very talented author. I loved
this book."
Jeri
Neal, The
Romance Readers Connection
"...pure
entertainment..."
"NOT
THE MARRYING KIND by Hailey North is the
kind of book that I could easily see being made into
a
movie. It's got all the best ingredients
for a
romantic film: fully developed characters
who average folks can identify with, clear backstory
and a
plot that is romantic, funny and engaging
without
being overly done on any level. This is just
good storytelling, and I enjoyed every minute of
it.
"There
isn't any character in this book that isn't dimensional
and intriguing, and the
author's sense of humor regarding these characters
shines through on every page. NOT THE MARRYING KIND
is fun and funny, and wonderfully enjoyable."
Kay
James, Romance
Reader at Heart
"...a
'must-read' book."
"A
little bit of screwball comedy and an engaging
love story make NOT THE MARRYING
KIND a fresh and fun book from beginning to end.
Author, Hailey North may have been absent for a time,
but she is back in full force with this latest offering.
Jake and Harriet are quite a pair; intelligent, independent,
stubborn, prideful and made for each other. The
secondary cast of characters is a lively mix, from
Jake’s in-love
father to their son, Zach, to many “old friends” from
previous novels; Hailey North pens remarkably likable
characters across the board. The quirky sense of
humor she is famous for is certain to garner Ms North
many accolades. NOT THE MARRYING KIND is a “must
read” book."
Scarlet, Romance
Junkies Reviews
"This
is a wonderful book!"
"Ms.
North writes a wonderful novel. I was laughing
and crying throughout the book. Some
of the minor characters really rounded out the story
very well. I was thoroughly immersed in the story
line. Jake and Harriet have much to figure out and
this time they are not the only ones whose happiness
is at stake." 4-cups!

THE BACK SHELF
Not all good romance novels are written by
best-selling authors. From time to
time, I happen upon a book from a
lesser-known writer. If it's worth
reading, I'll tell you about it.
"
Lover: Undercover" by Hailey North takes us
on another trip to
Doolittle, Ark., even though we don't really visit
past characters.
In this story, Jenifer is a small-town librarian,
living and working in
the town she grew up in. She left college when she
became pregnant with
twins, and now her kids have left for college. She's
ready for an
adventure -- preferably with a handsome stranger.
Eric fits the bill, and he literally walks into her
life one afternoon.
Unfortunately,
Eric has some secrets -- one of which is
that fate didn't
toss him Jenifer's way.
Jenifer's a suspect in his federal investigation.
He doesn't plan to
fall in love with her, of course. But guess what?
